A Perfect Chalet Amid the Alps
Shhhh! It’s a secret! This hidden gem of a guesthouse-sized mini chalet comes with all the best that any fairy tale can offer—Hansel & Gretel come to mind. In a town famous for its 2 star hotels and chalets, Mazot Florence is instead awarded an amazing “4 Stars” by the French Accreditation Committee, and for good reason: It’s bursting with little surprises of every sort, every inch (or centimeter, if you like) well thought out, beautifully planned, with all the comforts of home and more in a small space that feels bigger and more spacious on the inside than it looks like it could possibly be from the outside. It’s a cozy retreat from the real world if there ever was one. Add to that a friendly, ever-attentive yet discreet proprietress who always seems close at hand when needed, she’s a former journalist, fluent in French and English, and holder of French, Swiss and American passports, who seems to know everyone and everything about Chamonix, its environs and sports from firsthand experience and prominent family history. She’s the best resource in town. Just as the main walking street of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc escapes the hubbub of downtown, this snug tributary crosses at a distance just far enough to guarantee continuous quietude. If you arrive by car, there’s a parking spot waiting for you. If you don’t arrive by car, you don’t need one—free bus passes take you where you want to go from a central stop that’s close by. The main Chamonix shops, restaurants, post office and town center are all within an awe-inspiring walk away. It’s easy to get carried away with the spectacular scenery, so take care not to bump into things along the way. Our experiences here and those of close friends in on the ‘secret’—world citizens all—dub this place among the finest you’ll find anywhere on this planet. It’s a one-off. Please don’t tell anyone, though—it’s a secret we want to keep for ourselves.

Florence is a true hostess, who made our honeymoon stay at her Chalet absolutely adorable. It was a period when we needed comfort, cosiness, hospitality and seclusion, and she gave us all of it, being a very tactful and caring person. We were welcomed by charming sweets and pastries and Florence made a few pleasant suprises in the duration of our stay. She was also immensly helpful in meeting us at the train station and giving us a lift there when we were leaving Chamonix. She provided a sound advise on Chamonix location, great restaurants and other entertainments. She even offered us an opportunity to travel with her to Italy for a day in her car, which we sadly had to decline, but it was very-very nice of her nevertheless. Her chalet is of excellent standard and comfort, not only cozy and beautiful, but also with very good shower facilities, heating, storage, bath towels, linen, lighting, DVD&Music system, kitchen appliances and a comfortbale bed. Another unforgettable bonus were deers who used to come to the chalet almost every evening and were so great and funny to look at! :)) All in all, we are very grateful to Florence for our excellent stay in Chamonix! Choosing a venue and place for a honeymoon is always risky, but we were 100% happy and never regretted our choice - highly recommended for all! We definitely hope to be back one day (hopefully with kids this time :) BIG thank you to Florence, greetings and all the best from both of us!

My husband and I stayed here for the second time this March. We visited Chamonix for two week to ski tour. The chalet felt just like home with every convenience and a large, most comfortable bed. Florence was like an old friend! The chalet is located on Chemin de la Croix des Pecles, which was easy enough for the shuttle drivers to find and also easy to find your way back to in the dark after dinner. There is a large statute of Jesus on the Cross at the right-hand turn. The chalet is just a few minutes walking pace from Chamonix-Sud, the southern part of the town. We caught the bus for skiing at this stop. The center of town and the main drag is also only minutes away, easily walked in comfortable shoes (or ski boots!) Florence is the kindest, caring host who makes us feel wanted and at home. I feel as though I've know her for years. She let us store our ski equipment in the garage, and also wash our clothes in her laundry facility - which we couldn't have done without! The chalet itself is just the right size for 2 people, with a closet for hanging clothes and plenty of drawers. There is a kitchen with a small stovetop, microwave, sink, refrigerator and dishwasher. And of course a Nespresso for making coffee! The woodwork in the chalet is very beautiful, and Florence has it decorated so nicely. The view from the chalet looks right out onto Mont Blanc - you couldn't ask for better. And since the chalet is away from streetlights and busy roads it is very quiet and dark at night; great for a good night's sleep. I have recommended this cozy chalet to my friends and family. My in-laws especially, who have never been to Chamonix. I think they would love it here and also get along fantastically with Florence. If you are considering renting the chalet for your stay, I highly encourage you to do so! You will not regret it and will have many fond memories to bring home.

Even though the review is coming in late after our summer trip to France in June, our stay is as fresh in our mind as it was last week. We enjoyed the scenic beauty of Chamonix right from outside our cottage and Florence was nothing but an exceptional host. She made our stay very comfortable and recommended things to do and places to visit. We even enjoyed the fresh lettuce and herbs from her cottage while we were there! We are just waiting to return back to Chamonix and will be definitely staying at Florence's!

It is a dream. A fantasy come true. We spent three glorious months in Snow White’s cottage where the Seven Dwarves had spent their lives preparing for our stay instead of digging the mine. No wonder Chalet Florence is rated FIVE STARS by France’s official Accreditation Committee. From bottom to top, you live in a comfortable work of art—doors, shutters, beams and furniture are hand-carved masterpieces by artisans of ages past—a living, cozy memento that breathes its origins as can never be duplicated. And yet—here is another amazing part—the chalet contains a generous abundance of modern world conveniences close at hand, beautifully and lovingly incorporated throughout its nooks and crannies, tastefully living in harmony with tradition. It’s a joyous experience. Next, multiply all of that by the private, quiet garden setting, nestled beneath snowy Mont Blanc in the most stunningly beautiful, spectacularly gorgeous spot on earth, and you have Chalet Florence. Almost. We cannot forget to include the perfectly amiable, knowledgeable, kind and discreet hostess seemingly known to all, Florence herself. Take a curtsey, Madame. Put all of this together, then, within a few refreshing and scenic steps from the downtown Chamonix walking street, and voilà—you’re beginning to understand the real-life dream come true waiting for you in Chalet Florence.

We cannot say enough nice things about our stay in Florence’s chalet. From the time we arrived until we left, Florence made sure that everything was taken care of. The chalet was beautifully furnished and had views of Mont Blanc that are out of this world. We had considered several other places before choosing this one and are so glad we did. In the evenings, its very quiet and away from the noise of downtown Chamonix. However, the shops/restaurants in Chamonix are just a short walk away, which we walked to nearly everyday. The hiking nearby was challenging and offered great views of alps. Look no further if you want a quaint, quiet, little chalet with wonderful views and an amazing hostess. Florence truly took care of everything. We were even fortunate enough to share dinner with her one evening, which was very enjoyable to hear more about the history of Chamonix and her chalets. I hope that we’ll be able to visit Chamonix again and if we do, we’ll definitely be staying in this chalet again!

This lovely little chalet is clean and comfortable and bursting with mountain charm. It was the perfect accommodation for our week of hiking and enjoying the scenery of this gorgeous region. We enjoyed the short walk to the shops and restaurants but also enjoyed barbequing at the chalet and dining outside while admiring the full panorama of the Alps. Eating fresh lettuce and herbs from Florence's garden was an added bonus! Florence was a flawless host and a great resource for ensuring that we made the most of everything that Chamonix and the surrounding area had to offer. We took a couple of beautiful day trips to nearby Annecy and Courmayeur, Italy. We absolutely loved our time at the chalet and recommend it very highly!
